I have been working for Little Orchard for five years and my own daughter attended from the age of six months. In this time I have developed professionally within the company and my daughter developed into a confident young girl who moved on to school with the help and care of the staff that supported her over the years.
I have been managing the Sparkwell setting in Plymouth which I enjoy on a daily basis. One of the most enjoyable parts of my job is interacting with both children and parents. We are lucky to have a small community in the village which means we are able to have visits to the local school and church with its lovely contemplation garden.
The rural area in which the nursery is based makes it stand out from the other day nurseries in Plymouth as the children enjoy being in one of our three outside areas that we have access to. We are also delighted to bring the philosophy and practice of Montessori education to this Plymouth based nursery."
Laura Birchall, Setting Manager
Little Orchard Sparkwell Montessori is a day nursery providing early years education in a rural, village location on the outskirts of Plympton, Plymouth and conveniently situated just five minutes from the A38.
The nursery setting is divided into areas by low level shelving and safety gates so it has a real family feel. Older children can go to younger areas, so that siblings and friends can be with each other if they wish to; and should the children want to rest they can curl up in one of our cosy nests for sleeping.
As Sparkwell is open from 8am - 6pm we offer the children breakfast, a two course hot lunch produced by a qualified chef, high tea and snacks. Children are also welcome to bring their own food from home. For more information on our food click here.
Our beautiful outside facilities include a large covered decked area for free outside access; a mini orchard for planting and a grassed area backing onto a field which has horses and sometimes deer for the children to watch. There are always lots of birds and wild rabbits for the children to discover and in the village there is a woodland walk and recreational field which we use.
Due to our large catchment area children attending Sparkwell move on to a variety of primary schools in Plymouth an Devon. In the village we work closely with Sparkwell school sharing expertise, training and resources.
Little Orchard Sparkwell was accredited by the Montessori Evaluation and Accreditation Board (MEAB) in 2014 and achieved a 'good' grade in it's Ofsted assessment.
