"I joined Little Orchard in October 2016 and was based in the Ivytown setting. I worked in the baby room and made some fantastic bonds with the children and families. In April 2017 I decided that I wanted to have a change of career and left to work in a motorcycle shop. After 3 months and a few visits from the children I quickly realised that I missed working with children and couldn’t think of a better nursery to return to than Little Orchard, fortunately there was a job for me.
In July 2017 I covered at all 3 nurseries and got to meet all the
children, families, and staff, it was lovely to work with everyone.
Then in August I was based in Ivybridge as deputy manager and
then became SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinating
Officer) . Since becoming SENCO I have learnt so much. The
children have taught me unbelievable things! I then progressed to managing the Ivy Town setting which moved to Lee Mill August 2020.
I have learnt more since starting at Little Orchards than I had in 8 previous years in childcare. I have learnt all about SEN and about Montessori. I really love the Montessori ethos and can see the difference it makes to a child's development."
Briony Milden, Setting Manager
Little Orchard Lee Mill is a situated in the industrial estate. This larger setting has one spacious central room, a separate babies room, office and a large kitchen. It also has a function room which can be hired for local groups or birthday parties.
The main room is divided into curriculum areas with wooden shelved trolleys full of of engaging Montessori activities for the children to choose from. The under twos have their own room filled with exciting activities following the Montessori ethos. Older children can go to younger areas, so that siblings and friends can be with each other if they wish to be.
Lee Mill Montessori Nursery is open from 7:30 - 18:00 and we offer the children breakfast, a two course hot lunch produced by a qualified chef, high tea and snacks. As the kitchen is so large there is a separate area the children can bake or watch the chef prepare food. Children are also welcome to bring their own food from home. Our lovely outside has to be seen to be believed. Although we are in an industrial estate it is so peaceful and there is an abundance of birds and insects for the children to observe. We have a flat lawned area with outdoor toys, a natural woodland area with tyres, logs and other natural materials to explore and finally a large area of tarmac where we have sensory play such as water and sand and a space for trikes.
Children attending our Devon based nursery in Lee Mill move on to a variety of primary schools due to our large catchment area and we support all our children in their transition.
