Involving Parents

We understand that you want to maintain an active part in your child's daytime care and so we help you to stay connected to your child and the time they spend at nursery through consistent and regular feedback.

Each child has a key worker who is responsible for your child’s emotional and developmental needs. The key worker also ensures the child’s interests are catered for in their environment. They will write in a two way communication book to let you know what activities your child has been involved in during the day and what they have been interested in.  Likewise, parents can make notes on what the child is interested in at home so that we can encourage or explore that interest during the day.

We also use a computerised system called Keep Track for recording observations and tracking each child's progress.  Keep Track is a Montessori record keeping system helping us to track a child through the Montessori equipment and the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage).  Photos and artwork can also be uploaded to the system and along with the observations are printed out and made into a scrap book for each child.  Parents and carers are asked to complete a few pages to add to the front of the scrap book giving information about the child's family, pets, favourite toy, food etc. The books are sent home termly (or more often if desired) and are stored in each child’s named tray at nursery.  The children enjoy looking at their scrapbooks and discussing with staff or their friends what they can see. It is an excellent way for us to see what the children enjoy and gain their views and the children are very proud of their scrap books.

You will receive Next Step reports three times a year along with your child’s scrapbook for families to share
.  The Next Step report will give a brief description of where your child is in their development and what the next steps are for the coming term as well as activity ideas.  You will have an opportunity to add comments from yourself and your child.

We operate
an open door policy and parents are welcome to visit the nursery by arrangement.  If parents wish to speak to their child’s key worker a mutually convenient time will be arranged. We celebrate Christmas and Harvest with families and hold end of academic year celebrations every July.

We also stay in touch with parents through regular newsletters that can be viewed here
